GLOBAL ELITE PRODUCE ALMOST HALF OF GREENHOUSE EMISSIONS
According to a recent study by the World Inequality Database, the emissions of the bottom half of the population are close to or in line with the 1.5ºC target in all regions but North America and Europe (see more in the following graphic). In certain countries and regions, emissions of the middle 40% are also in line or close to the 1.5ºC equally split target.
By contrast, nowhere in the world do the emissions of the top 10% meet the Paris targets, although there are marked differences across regions. This clearly illustrates the importance of emission inequalities within countries and regions for the overall picture of carbon inequality. For this, it is essential to lower emissions in developed countries to keep our commitments to stop global warming. At greenviu, we are bringing more and more health professionals to contribute to this collective effort to leave a better world for the next generations.
